Getting Tickets and How to Visit if it's Sold Out

Planning to visit Arches National Park? Between April and October, all visitors driving their own vehicle must have a timed-entry reservation to enter the park between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The park allows roughly 2,700 vehicles per day to enter the park. It’s the Park Service’s way of keeping Arches beautiful and less crowded — but it can be stressful if you’re visiting for the first time. Here’s everything you need to know about when reservations are required, how to get your entry ticket, and how to explore Arches even if tickets are gone — including options that include guaranteed entry with a guided tour.

Do You Need a Reservation to Enter Arches National Park?

If you plan to drive your own vehicle into Arches between April 1 and October 31, you’ll need a timed-entry ticket from 7:00 AM to 4:00  PM. Each ticket allows entry during a one-hour window (for example, 10:00 AM–11:00 AM) and remains valid for the entire day once you enter.

You don’t need a reservation if:

  • You enter before 7 AM or after 4 PM
  • You visit from November to March
  • You join a guided Arches National park tour (tours include pre-arranged park entry)

How to Reserve Your Timed-Entry Ticket

  1. Go to Recreation.gov
  2. Select Arches National Park Timed Entry
  3. Choose your date and preferred one-hour entry time.
  4. Pay the $2 reservation fee (plus the standard park entry fee or park pass).
  5. Save a screenshot or print your confirmation before arriving (cell service may be limited at the entrance).

  3. Visit Nearby Wonders
If park entry slots are full, discover other breathtaking areas nearby:

    Canyonlands National Park
    – Vast canyons and viewpoints only 30 minutes away.
    Dead Horse Point State Park
    – Panoramic overlooks of the Colorado River.
    Moab’s Backcountry Trails
    – There are plenty of amazing hikes outside the park.

Pro tip: Many travelers combine a guided tour with extra time exploring on their own before or after the reservation hours. This allows you to visit some of the most popular spots in the park without the stress of parking (it can get very busy), and then return on your own later to explore some of the longer hikes or see additional stops your guide will recommend.

Why The Timed-Entry System Matters

In recent years, Arches National Park has welcomed more than a million visitors annually, making it one of Utah’s most beloved destinations—and also one of the busiest. To help protect its fragile desert landscape and improve the visitor experience, the National Park Service now manages entry through a timed-entry reservation system.

Without a reservation, many visitors once found themselves waiting in long lines or unable to find parking at popular trailheads. Today, the system helps spread visitation throughout the day, creating a calmer, more enjoyable experience for everyone.

For guests who prefer not to navigate reservations or parking or get stuck with a less desirable mid-day ticket, guided van tours offer a seamless alternative. You’ll see all the park’s highlights, without the stress of securing your own entry pass or worrying about crowded parking lots.

We’re proud to work alongside the National Park Service in helping visitors experience this incredible landscape with care and respect. If you have any questions, our team at the Moab Adventure Center is happy to help you plan your visit.
