Why Camp at Dead Horse Point State Park?

Perched 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, Dead Horse Point offers some of the most dramatic views in Utah—and you can camp right on the rim. Two campgrounds, Kayenta and Wingate, provide a mix of tent sites, RV hookups, and yurts with easy access to hiking trails and overlooks. Just 30 minutes from Moab and minutes from Canyonlands, it’s a convenient basecamp that blends modern comfort with unforgettable canyon country scenery.

Kayenta Campground

Kayenta Campground is tucked among juniper trees just steps from Dead Horse Point’s famous overlooks. With 21 sites that include electrical hookups, tent pads, picnic tables, and shade shelters, it’s a comfortable choice for both tent campers and RV travelers. The quiet setting and rim-top views make it one of Utah’s most memorable campgrounds.

Windgate Campground

Wingate Campground sits on the mesa top with sweeping views of red rock cliffs and open desert. Offering 31 campsites for tents and RVs, plus several yurts, it’s the larger of the two campgrounds at Dead Horse Point. Modern restrooms and easy access to hiking trails make Wingate especially popular with families and groups planning to explore both the park and nearby Canyonlands.

Windgate Yurts

For a touch of comfort in the desert, the Wingate Yurts offer a “glamping” experience near the canyon rim. Each yurt sleeps up to six and comes furnished with bunk beds, futons, electricity, heating and air conditioning, plus an outdoor deck with a grill and picnic table. Restrooms are nearby, making these yurts a favorite for families and travelers who want the magic of camping with added convenience.
