The Most Famous 4x4 Trail?
The Hell’s Revenge Trail is Moab’s most iconic 4x4 route, and for good reason. Your Hummer Safari kicks off with a wild climb up a slickrock fin, a drop into a narrow slot called Lake Michigan, and a little breather at the dinosaur tracks. Then it's off to "Top of the World" and "The Abyss." All along you see panoramic views and photo-worthy moments, but who takes photos when they're riding a roller coaster?!
The
Slickrock Safari turns around shortly after the dunes, offering an adrenaline-packed loop through Moab’s most thrilling terrain. The
Sunset Safari, however, continues farther, tracing the high slickrock fins out to the Colorado River Overlook, a stunning finale with canyon views bathed in golden evening light.
Moab Hummer Tour Reviews
"Phenomenal Tour"
★★★★★
Shad went above and beyond to make the trip memorable, and he did some amazing things on the rocks that I didn't think a vehicle could do. He kept us laughing and on the edge of our seats, but at the same time it was clear he had a ton of experience so we felt safe while our adrenaline was pumping! Highly recommend this tour.

We did the sunset Hummer tour. We had a group with ages ranging from 10-65 and everyone had a blast. Our tour guide, Patrick, was fantastic. He really made sure everyone felt safe and was having a good time. I would highly recommend this company and this specific tour! The views, the thrills, and the factual tidbits were just amazing!

"Must-Do in Moab"
★★★★★
Craig gave us an off-road ride we’ll never forget! The climbs and descents were thrilling, but he handled the Hummer with such confidence that we could just sit back and enjoy the rush. He mixed in geology, history, and plenty of jokes, which kept everyone engaged the whole time. This tour is an absolute must-do in Moab!

"Highlight of Our Trip"
★★★★★
Mike was incredible—funny, knowledgeable, and a total pro behind the wheel. The way he navigated those steep slickrock trails was unreal, and he made the whole group feel comfortable even on the wildest parts. Between the adrenaline, the views, and the laughs, this was the highlight of our trip! We will be back to Moab Adventure Center.

Why Choose Moab Adventure Center

Guides Who Make it Epic
Our Hummer guides are part driver, part storyteller, and part comedian. Guests rave about how they keep you laughing, point out hidden secrets of the desert, and handle slickrock climbs with a calm confidence that makes the impossible feel effortless.

The Hummer Difference
Exploring Hell’s Revenge in a Jeep or UTV is possible, but the Hummer makes it unforgettable. With its elevated seating, powerful build, and smooth ride, and group togetherness you’ll enjoy every climb and descent without the stress of driving.

Unforgettable for Every Age
Many off-road trips are limited to hardcore enthusiasts, but our Hummer tours are loved by kids, parents, and grandparents alike. From the moment you crest your first rock fin, it feels like the highlight of your trip, and something you'll talk about for years.
Turns Out Hell's Revenge Ain't So Bad...in a Hummer!
In 1983, the U.S. military introduced a rugged new vehicle known as the Humvee, short for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. Built to handle the harshest terrain on Earth, the Humvee became an icon of off-road dominance. By 1992, a civilian version was released under the name Hummer, unleashing this beast onto America’s backroads, and into the heart of Moab’s wild desert landscape.
That same decade, Moab, Utah was undergoing a transformation of its own. Once a uranium boomtown that faded into near-abandonment, Moab was dusting itself off and redefining its identity. The days of Geiger counters and government contracts gave way to camp stoves, hiking boots, and fat-tired mountain bikes. The town’s next chapter wouldn’t be written in radioactive ore—but in red rock, rim trails, and roaring engines. It was, quite literally, a different kind of rock that drew the crowds: Slickrock.
Despite its name, slickrock isn’t slick at all, at least not to rubber tires. While notoriously slippery for horses, this wind-polished Navajo sandstone offers incredible traction for tires, making it ideal for adventurous riders of all kinds. First came the motorbikes, then the pioneering mountain bikers of the 1980s, and soon after, Moab became a playground for off-road vehicles. As rock crawling gained popularity, the Hummer—wide, powerful, and nearly unstoppable, proved a perfect match for the region’s knotted terrain and steep stone ledges.
Today, Moab is synonymous with off-road adventure, and Hell’s Revenge is its crown jewel. Hummers still prowl these trails, not as military transports, but as open-air chariots of desert exploration. With expert guides at the wheel, guests don’t just ride—they conquer ancient dunes and dinosaur-stamped slickrock, tracing a new kind of trail through Moab’s storied terrain. From Cold War relic to tourism titan, the Hummer’s journey is as wild as the trails it now rides.
Frequently Asked Questions about Moab Hummer Tours
Does the Hummer Tour take place inside the national park?
Our hummer tours do not take place in either of the nearby national parks. Instead, you will be exploring the world-famous “Hell’s Revenge” off-road trail in the nearby Sand Flats Recreation area located just east of downtown Moab.
Are there bathrooms available while on the Hummer Tour?
We highly recommend guests use our restrooms before departing on their hummer tour as there are no toilets available once on the trail.
What if I'm afraid of heights? Can I still do this tour?
This tour will include many large slickrock fins and several viewpoints over Moab and the Colorado River. Several of these fins and overlooks may have drop-offs on either side. However, you are not required to exit the vehicle during the tour. If you are comfortable with heights while inside the vehicle, you should be just fine on our Hummer tours.
What physical limitations that might keep me from doing this tour?
Our hummer safaris are best described as slow moving roller coasters. While slow moving, they can still be quite bumpy. We don’t recommend hummer tours to guests with back issues. There will also be several stops to view scenic overlooks during the tour; however, you are not required to exit the vehicle during these stops.
Do I get to drive the Hummer?
No. These tours are professionally guided by certified drivers who know the trail. They make the ride fun and comfortable and share interesting information along the way.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes—you’ll be stepping out onto rocky terrain at scenic stops. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. Sunglasses are a good idea too… for the sun, and for looking cool in your photos.
Will we see wildlife or dinosaur tracks?
You might! While we don’t guarantee wildlife sightings, it’s not uncommon to spot lizards, birds of prey, or even a bighorn sheep.
We do stop to see real dinosaur tracks—evidence that Moab has always been a playground for giants.
How does this compare to driving my own Jeep or UTV?
Renting your own vehicle is an option, but most guests say riding with a professional guide in a Hummer lets them fully enjoy the thrill without worrying about navigating, permits, or handling the extreme terrain. Plus, you’ll hear fascinating local stories along the way. Also, note that Jeep Rentals are not allowed to drive Hell’s Revenge.
Are Moab Hummer tours scary?
The steep climbs and descents look dramatic, and that’s part of the fun! Guests often describe the ride as thrilling but also smoother and more controlled than they expected. Professional guides drive these routes every day and know exactly how to handle the terrain.
What ages can go on a Hummer tour?
Children as young as 5 are welcome, and families love that kids, parents, and grandparents can all ride together. For many guests, it’s the highlight of their family trip to Moab.
Do I need to be fit or do any hiking?
No serious hiking is required. You’ll enjoy incredible overlooks and slickrock scenery without having to trek long distances. Some guests like to walk out to the edge of the overlooks, but the distance isn’t far. The majority of the adventure happens entirely from the Hummer, with occasional short stops for photos.
How bumpy is the ride?
The ride includes steep angles, quick climbs, and some jostling—that’s what makes it so exciting\! At the same time, guests are often surprised by how capable the Hummers are at handling rough terrain with a smooth, steady feel.
What’s the difference between the Hummer Tour options?
Standard Hell’s Revenue (2 hours): Action-packed introduction to Hell’s Revenge trail.
Hell’s Revenge Sunset Safari (3 hours): Combines the thrills of Hell’s Revenge with the beauty of a desert sunset. It's a more relaxed pace with more time to enjoy the sunset outside of the vehicle.
Hell’s Revenge & Fins N Things (4 hours):* Our most extensive option, with more time to explore two legendary Moab trails.
Do Hummer tours run year-round?
Tours operate most of the year (February–November), with multiple departure times. Sunset trips are especially popular in spring, summer and fall when the evening light is most spectacular.
What happens if it rains or the weather changes?
If there’s a rare weather event or enough rain that it affects the trail, the team will work with you to reschedule or find another great adventure during your stay.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Absolutely! The Hummers stop at stunning overlooks where you’ll have time for photos. Many guests say the pictures are some of the best souvenirs of their trip.
Do tours sell out? How far in advance should I book?
Yes, popular times and sunset tours can fill quickly. Booking early ensures you get the time and tour you want.
What should I bring (or not bring) on the tour?
Bring water, sun protection, and a camera. You won’t need hiking gear, and bulky bags are best left behind to keep the ride comfortable. For cooler temperatures, particularly for morning and sunset tours, bring a jacket and dress for the weather.
