Moab Rope Swing

★★★★★ 4.9 OUT OF 7633 REVIEWS ⓘ

The Moab Rope Swing is a guided 400-foot cliff jump and pendulum swing in the red rock canyons just north of Moab, Utah. You free-fall off the edge, then swing out across an open canyon before a motorized winch lifts you back to the top. It runs 3 to 4 hours, needs no experience, welcomes ages 8 and up, and is fully permitted by the Bureau of Land Management.

There is a moment, standing at the edge of a 400-foot sandstone cliff with the desert opening up beneath you, when every reason you came to Moab narrows to one decision: lean forward, or step back.
The Moab Rope Swing is built around that moment. You ride out by 4x4 shuttle to a rim most people never see, get fitted in a full-body harness by guides who have talked thousands of first-timers off this same ledge, and then you take the leap. A few seconds of pure free fall, and then the rope swings you in a soaring arc across open canyon air. No climbing back up: a motorized winch brings you to the top. Out here, with red rock in every direction and the canyon floor far below, there is nothing else like it in Moab. It is the kind of thing you almost talk yourself out of, then can't stop talking about.

  • 400-Foot Cliff: Free-fall off the edge, then swing across an open desert canyon.

  • Guides Who Coach You: First-timers get walked off the edge, step by step.

  • No Experience Needed: Built for first-timers and anyone 8 years and up.

  • Off-Road 4x4 Shuttle: A backcountry ride out to the cliff is part of the day.

  • Fully BLM Permitted: A permitted, insured operation out on public land.

Your Moab Rope Swing Day

Your day starts at the meeting point just north of Moab, where you leave your car and climb into an off-road 4x4 shuttle. The 30-minute ride out is half the fun, a backcountry trek across slickrock and sand to the rim. At the top, guides fit you with a full-body harness, helmet, and gloves, walk you through the rigging, and answer every question before anyone goes near the edge. Then it is your turn. You step off a 400-foot wall under your own power, drop into a few seconds of open free fall, then feel the rope support you and carry you out in a long arc across the canyon. A motorized winch lifts you back to the top, so there is no climbing out. Stay and watch your group jump, heckle a friend, then take the scenic drive back to our starting point.

"So Grateful I Took the Plunge"

★★★★★

My rope swing experience allowed me to overcome my fears. Thank you to the girl who talked me through things at the edge of the cliff. I was told I'm in charge of my brain, I decide what I'm doing. So grateful I took the plunge. Would do this again in a heartbeat!

Three Generations All Jumped"

★★★★★

Plunged off a cliff with the guys at Rope Swing Moab. Definitely one of the most awesome things I've ever done. My 13-year-old son, my brother, my 69-year-old dad and I all took the jump. The guys gave me nothing but confidence in their experience. Can't wait to do it again!

"One of the Coolest Things in Moab"

★★★★★

If you're in Moab, this rope swing is honestly one of the coolest experiences around. The views are unreal, and the swing itself is super well done. Everything felt organized and safe, and the people running it clearly know what they're doing. 100% worth checking out.

"Better Than My New Zealand Swing"

★★★★★

I've done a similar canyon swing in New Zealand, but Moab Rope Swing was better in every way. The drive to the canyon is exciting, the setting is beautiful, and our guides were fun and knowledgeable. You'll regret it if you don't get the drone add-on. Would swing again.

"Go Do It, Even If You're Scared"

★★★★★

Go do it. Even if you're scared. It was absolutely thrilling. The entire crew were supportive, and it was clear how much they loved what they do as they shared their excitement with every participant. I felt safe the entire time and would book again if I'm ever in the Moab area!

Why Choose The Moab Rope Swing?

Group of people in helmets and harnesses on a red rock, overlooking a valley under a blue sky.

Guides Who Talk You Off the Edge

The crew has coached thousands of first-timers through this exact leap. They fit your gear, walk you through every step, and stay right beside you up to the edge.

A blue utility vehicle with passengers wearing helmets travels on a dirt trail in a rocky canyon.

Every Piece of Gear, Handled

You jump in a full-body harness, helmet, and gloves on industry-proven rigging with multiple backups. A motorized winch lifts you back up, so there's no climbing out.

Permitted and Insured on Public Land

This is a fully permitted, fully insured operation, not the banned Corona Arch swing. A real, sanctioned experience run by a team that does it every day, under permit from the Bureau of Land Management.

The Leap You Almost Didn't Take

Some places in Moab you look at. This one you step into. The canyon doesn't announce itself from the highway. You have to drive out to find it, past the slickrock and the juniper, until the ground simply ends and the desert drops away in front of you. Standing at the rim, with the wind moving across the open space, it goes quiet in a way that makes your own heartbeat loud. This is the spot. This is where you decide.

For a second, every instinct tells you to step back. Then you don't. You lean into the open air, and the bottom falls out of the world. The free fall is fast and total, a few seconds with nothing under you but red rock and sky, and then the rope catches and the falling turns into flight. You swing out across the canyon in a long, weightless arc, the walls sliding past, the floor far below, and the fear you carried to the edge becomes something a lot closer to joy. People come up laughing. A few come up speechless. Almost everyone asks to go again. Almost...

The harness, the helmet, the rigging, the guides who have done this thousands of times: all of it is there so you can stop thinking about the how and feel the leap. The question was never whether you could. It was only whether you would.

"We've seen it all, but what never changes is the reason we do it: helping people from all around the world do something impossible."

- Tanner Palmer, Rope Swing Moab Manager and Guide
