Utah's Newest State Park

In a land where dinosaurs once ruled and adventure still reigns, a new chapter has opened in Moab’s red desert. Utahraptor State Park is Utah’s newest playground—born from the fossilized bones of its fierce namesake and shaped by the same wind and stone that carved nearby Arches. Nearby Moab Giants dinosaur museum, scenic byway 313 to Dead Horse Point and Island in the Sky and several tours that reveal dinosaur fossils make this an ideal visit or camping location.

Utahraptor State Park is Moab’s newest playground—wide-open desert, rugged ridgelines, and traces of the giant predator that once ruled this ground. Just 15 minutes north of town, the park delivers big-sky solitude without the crowds. Spend an hour exploring or a full day linking trails, snapping photos, and soaking up the silence that feels miles from anywhere.

Getting There


  • From downtown Moab, drive north on US-191 for about 15 minutes and follow signs for Utahraptor State Park. The main entrance and trailheads sit just south of Crescent Junction. Parking is gravel and limited—arrive early if you plan to ride or camp. There are no services yet inside the park, so stock up in Moab before you go.

Trails & Terrain


Utahraptor’s trail network feels raw and wide open—less developed than Dead Horse Point but with equally stunning vistas. Expect rolling slickrock, sandy stretches, and dramatic views toward Arches and the Book Cliffs. It’s ideal for adventurous families, photographers, and riders who like their rides quiet and their horizons wide.

Visitor Center & Exhibits

Utahraptor State Park’s new Visitor Center is part welcome hub, part window into the region’s prehistoric past. Inside, you’ll find interpretive displays about the Utahraptor fossils discovered nearby, maps and trail info, and rangers ready to share local tips. Step outside and you’ll spot viewpoints overlooking the colorful Entrada cliffs and the evolving campground below. While still expanding, the center captures the park’s spirit perfectly—raw, fascinating, and deeply connected to the land’s geologic story.
