I called to book my One hour Scenic Flight of Canyonlands National Park on very short notice and the gal that I talked with was extremely helpful on getting me lined up on a flight in the next 2 days. Frequently Asked Questions
Is this ride a good choice for beginners or kids?
Yes. This ride is perfect for first-time riders and families with kids ages 10 and up. The wranglers take time to match each rider with a gentle horse and help everyone feel comfortable before heading out on the trail.
What will we see on this shorter trail?
You’ll ride into Castle Creek Canyon where red cliffs tower above and the creek winds through the valley. It is a beautiful introduction to Moab’s canyon country and an unforgettable way to see the landscape up close. How long will we be in the saddle?
Plan on about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes of actual riding, with a little extra time for orientation at the corral before you start.Do we get time for photos along the way?
Yes. The pace is relaxed, and wranglers are happy to pause for photos at scenic spots. The canyon views make for incredible backdrops. What are the age and weight requirements?
Riders must be at least 10 years old and 4’3” tall (52 inches / 133 cm), and the maximum rider weight is 220 pounds. These limits help ensure both rider and horse are comfortable throughout the ride.
Will a wrangler help if I’ve never ridden before?
Absolutely. Most guests have little or no riding experience. Your wrangler will guide you through the basics in the corral and stay close by on the trail. What should I wear or bring for the afternoon ride?
Closed-toe shoes and long pants are best for comfort. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and a camera. Helmets are provided and required for riders under 16.
Are bathrooms available before or after the ride?
Yes. Facilities are available at the corral before you begin. There are no restrooms on the trail itself. How far is Red Cliffs Lodge from downtown Moab?
Red Cliffs Lodge is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Moab. You’ll drive yourself to the lodge to check in at the stables.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Rides may be delayed or rescheduled if weather makes the trail unsafe. If the ride is canceled due to weather, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to rebook. What will I see on the Combo flight?
The best of both worlds: Arches’ sculpted spans and fins, plus Canyonlands’ sweeping river canyons and remote vistas—in one continuous, unforgettable route. Why choose the Combo vs. separate flights?
Efficiency. One takeoff, one landing, and the full picture of Moab’s parks. It’s ideal for first-time visitors or anyone on a tight schedule. Is 80 minutes too long for kids or first-timers?
It’s the sweet spot. The route mixes quick-hit Arches highlights with the grand scale of Canyonlands, so the view is always changing.Where do we meet and when should we arrive?
Canyonlands Regional Airport (located about 18 miles north of Moab). Arrive about 30 minutes before departure; free terminal parking. What is the airplane size & seating?
Small, fixed-wing touring aircraft with guaranteed window seats for all passengers. Most planes fit 3 to 9 guests.Do we wear headsets and hear narration?
Yes, you’ll wear headsets and listen to engaging pilot narration throughout. Are there bathrooms on the plane?
No onboard restroom; terminal restrooms are available before and after the flight. What is the best time of day for this air tour?
Morning light is gorgeous across both parks and often offers calmer conditions. If your schedule’s tight, the 9:00 am daily departure is a great default.I’m motion-sensitive—will this be OK?
Most motion-sensitive guests do well on morning departures. The longer format is comfortable thanks to steady pacing and captivating sightlines. What will I see on this Arches flight?
A curated sweep of Arches’ greatest hits—Delicate Arch, the Windows Section, Courthouse Towers, and more. Flight paths flex for the best views on the day, so you get memorable angles without the crowds. Is 30 minutes really enough?
For Arches, yes. From the air, the park is compact and highly visual—you’ll cover in one flight what could take a full day on the ground.Best time of day for this flight?
Mornings (and late morning) deliver crisp light and typically smoother air—perfect for photos and first-timers.Is this good for families and kids?
Absolutely. Kids under 12 book at the youth rate. Infants age 1 and under are free and can ride on a parent’s lap. The shorter duration makes it a favorite for younger children.Where do we meet and when should we arrive?
Canyonlands Regional Airport (about 18 miles north of Moab). Plan to arrive 30 minutes before departure. Free parking is available at the airport. How big are the airplanes? Will I get a window seat?
Small, fixed-wing touring aircraft configured for small groups—and every seat is a window seat.Do we wear headsets? Will there be narration?
Yes. You’ll wear comfortable headsets with pilot commentary and clear views throughout. What about bathrooms?
There’s no restroom onboard for this short flight. Restrooms are available in the terminal before and after.I’m motion-sensitive or new to small planes—how will this feel?
This is our shortest flight and a great first step. Most motion-sensitive guests prefer morning departures for calmer air.Any tips for great photos?
Wear darker tops (reduces window reflections), hold the lens close to the glass, and keep the flash off. Wide to mid-zoom works best up here.Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper just to drive myself through the park?
While driving yourself might seem easier, our tour offers several advantages. We handle all logistics, including park fees and navigation, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Our expert guides provide insights you won't get on your own, and we know the best spots and times to visit, maximizing your experience in a limited time. How is this tour different from the free ranger-led programs in the park?
Our tour offers a more comprehensive and personalized experience than ranger-led programs. We cover more ground, visiting multiple key sites in the park. Our guides are deeply knowledgeable about the park's geology, history, and ecology, offering a more in-depth experience tailored to our group's interests.I'm not a morning person. Is it really worth getting up so early for this tour?
Well, ultimately that’s up to you! The early start allows you to experience the park in the best light for photography, cooler temperatures, and with fewer crowds. The stunning sunrise views over the red rock formations are truly unforgettable and, in our opinion, worth the early wake-up call. Will I feel rushed to see the whole park in just 4 hours?
Our tour is carefully designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the park's highlights without feeling rushed. While we can't cover every inch of the park in 4 hours, our experienced guides know how to make the most of your time, ensuring you see the most iconic formations and viewpoints. Is this tour suitable for children or will they get bored?
This tour is suitable for children aged 5 and up. Our guides are skilled at engaging visitors of all ages, making the geological and historical information accessible and exciting for kids. The short excursions and stunning visuals keep children engaged throughout the tour.I'm not very physically fit. Will I be able to keep up with the group?
Our tour includes easy strolls rather than strenuous hikes, making it accessible for most fitness levels. The guides set a comfortable pace, and there are plenty of stops for photos and rest. However, if you find it challenging to walk up to 1/2 mile on a path that includes some steps and uneven ground, give us a call, and we may suggest an alternate experience. What if I want to spend more time in a particular spot? Can we customize the tour?
While we have a set itinerary to ensure we cover the park's highlights, our guides try to be flexible when possible. However, for major customizations, you might want to consider a private tour option. We would be happy to arrange a private experience over the phone. How close do we actually get to the arches?
Our tour provides excellent views of many of Arches National Park's most iconic formations. While we can't approach every arch due to time constraints, we do get close to several significant arches! You'll have opportunities for up-close views and photos of landmarks like Balanced Rock and even be able to stand directly under the magnificent Windows and Turrett arches. We'll stop at prime viewpoints for spectacular vistas of formations like Delicate Arch.I'm an amateur photographer. Will I have enough time to get shots?
Yes, we factor in time for photography at key viewpoints. Our guides can even offer tips on the best angles and lighting for capturing the perfect shot. What happens if the weather is bad? Do we still go on the tour?
Yes, our tours typically operate rain or shine but we may modify the itinerary for severe weather to ensure your safety. We'll contact you as soon as possible if any changes are necessary.I'm concerned about the heat. How much of the tour is outdoors?
The tour balances time in our air-conditioned vehicle with outdoor exploration. The early morning start helps avoid the worst of the day's heat. Remember to bring water, sunscreen, and a hat.Is there a bathroom break during the tour?
Yes, there are opportunities for bathroom breaks during the tour. We make stops at locations with restroom facilities to ensure your comfort throughout the experience.I have dietary restrictions. Are the provided snacks suitable for everyone?
We offer a variety of snacks to accommodate common dietary restrictions. Please inform us of any specific dietary needs when booking, and we'll do our best to accommodate you. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks if you have any concerns. What if I get sick on winding roads?
Our vehicles are comfortable and our drivers are experienced with the park's roads. If you're prone to motion sickness, we recommend sitting near the front of the vehicle and bringing any personal remedies you typically use. Will it be too crowded to enjoy the views or take good photos?
Our early morning departure helps us avoid the largest crowds. Your guide knows the best times and angles to visit each site for optimal viewing and photography. Depending on the day, it is possible that we encounter some crowds at certain sites.I'm traveling solo. Will I feel out of place on a group tour?
Not at all! Our Arches National Park tours attract a diverse range of travelers, and solo travelers often find it's a great way to meet like-minded people while enjoying the park.I'm on a tight schedule. What if the tour runs late?
Our tours are carefully timed to return as scheduled. In the rare event of a delay, we make every effort to communicate this to our guests.Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper just to drive myself through the park?
Not necessarily. On a guided tour you don’t need to worry about timed-entry reservations, parking headaches, or navigating crowded lots. Your guide knows the best order to see the park, shares stories you wouldn’t get on your own, and gets you to the right viewpoints at the right time for sunset. How is this tour different from the free ranger-led programs in the park?
Ranger programs are wonderful but short, site-specific talks. Our guided tour is a comprehensive experience—covering more ground, offering transportation to multiple viewpoints, and including insider knowledge of geology, history, and hidden highlights. Many of our guides are former park rangers, so you’ll get some excellent knowledge combined with the ideal pace and convenience of a full tour.Is it worth going at sunset?
Yes. The golden-hour lighting makes the arches glow and the cliffs light up in spectacular colors. Temperatures are usually cooler, and you’ll enjoy some of the best photo opportunities of the day. Many guests say sunset is the most magical time to experience Arches. Will I feel rushed to see everything in just 4 hours?
The tour is paced to include the park’s most iconic viewpoints without feeling hurried. Your guide balances time at each stop so you can explore, take photos, and enjoy the changing light. Many guests enjoy experiencing the park with a guide first, and then return on their own to visit some of the spots and longer hikes that the tour doesn’t cover. Is this tour good for families with kids?
Yes. Children love exploring the short trails and viewpoints, and guides keep the trip engaging for younger guests. With evening departures, many families find the cooler temperatures more comfortable for kids compared to midday.I’m not very physically fit. Will I be able to keep up?
The Sunset Tour focuses on short, easy walks from the vehicle to viewpoints. Most guests with average mobility find the tour very accessible. There are walks as much as ½ mile that include several steps on a gravel or dirt path with uneven surfaces. If you have limited mobility, talk with us before booking so we can advise you. What if I want to stay longer at one spot? Can the tour be customized?
Guides follow a set route to ensure you see the best of Arches in the evening light. While we can’t fully customize timing, guides often adjust stops based on lighting conditions, crowd levels, and group interests. How close will we get to the arches?
The tour includes short walks to viewpoints of major formations. You’ll be able to walk right up to some arches, while others are best viewed from scenic overlooks. If you want a long hike to Delicate Arch, that’s a separate adventure, but you’ll see it from a viewpoint. Will I have enough time to take photos at sunset?
Yes. The tour is designed around lighting conditions, with ample time at key viewpoints for photography. Guides know the best spots for sunset photos and are happy to help with group shots. What happens if the weather is cloudy or rainy?
Tours operate in most conditions, and cloud cover can make for dramatic skies at sunset. If weather makes it unsafe or the park inaccessible, we’ll work with you to reschedule or refund. How hot will it be in the evening?
Evenings are usually cooler and more comfortable than mid-day. Summer sunsets still carry some warmth, but the lowering sun makes hiking and walking easier. Bring a light layer for spring and fall, as temperatures can drop quickly after sunset. Are there bathroom stops during the tour?
Yes. The tour makes stops at park restrooms along the route. What snacks or drinks are provided, and what if I have dietary needs?
Light snacks are included. You’ll be provided with a reusable souvenir water bottle upon check-in that you can fill with water and bring with you. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions when you book, and bring your own snacks if you have specific needs. Will the park be crowded at sunset?
Sunset is a popular time, but guided tours help you avoid the stress of parking and navigating crowds. Guides know how to time stops to maximize your experience, even when the park is busy.I’m traveling solo. Will I feel out of place on this tour?
Not at all. Many solo travelers join group tours to connect with others and hear stories from guides. You’ll be welcomed into the group and have a chance to meet other travelers. What if the tour runs late? Will I still be back in time for dinner?
The Sunset Tour typically lasts about 4 hours. While exact return time depends on sunset timing and traffic, most groups are back in Moab by late evening. If you have dinner plans, choose a later reservation. Check the times on your reservation for the approximate return time as they vary throughout the year based on the time of sunset. How many people are in the group, and what kind of vehicle is used?
We match the size of the vehicle to the group booking the tour. Most of our tours operate in 12-passenger vans with large viewing windows, but larger groups may use a larger motor coach with comfortable seating and excellent views.Do I still need a timed entry reservation or park ticket if I join a tour?
No. Your tour includes park entry and timed-entry access. That’s one of the biggest benefits of joining a guided experience.Do I need prior canyoneering experience for Bow & Arrow Canyon?
No experience is necessary. Our guides provide detailed instruction and backup safety systems so even first-timers can rappel with confidence. How many rappels are on this tour?
You’ll tackle four rappels. We’ll start with a short warm-up rappel of just 15 feet, or an alternative rappel of 100 feet if the group wants something more exciting. The second rappel is 120 feet with an incredible view of the canyon. The third rappel is 70 feet which is mostly low angle with just 10 feet of vertical. The fourth rappel is 60 feet and ends right next to our pickup location. Each one builds your confidence and keeps the adventure exciting. What makes Bow & Arrow different from Morning Glory?
Bow & Arrow Canyon includes more rappels and a longer, steeper hike. Along the way, you’ll see ancient petroglyphs and even fossilized dinosaur tracks. It’s ideal for adventurous hikers who want variety and discovery. Morning Glory, by contrast, features two dramatic rappels and is generally better for families or first-time canyoneers. Is the Bow & Arrow tour family friendly?
Yes, children 10 and up are welcome. The hike is slightly more adventurous than the Morning Glory Canyoneering Adventure with more elevation gain, but shorter distance (2.5 miles for Bow & Arrow vs 3.5 miles for Morning Glory). Teens and active families often love the extra challenge. How strenuous is the hike?
The hike into Bow & Arrow Canyon is 2.5 miles. It involves about 400-450 feet of elevation gain and a little scrambling down rocky terrain. Most reasonably fit guests can complete it, but it’s a slight step up in difficulty compared to Morning Glory’s canyon exit.
Will I see any unique features on this route?
Yes. In addition to the rappels and sweeping desert views, Bow & Arrow Canyon passes ancient petroglyphs left by the Ancestral Puebloans and includes an opportunity to see fossilized dinosaur tracks as well as long bow arch—something you won’t find on the Morning Glory tour.Do I need any experience to rappel in Morning Glory Canyon?
No experience is required. Our expert guides provide full instruction, coaching, and a backup safety system so even first-timers can enjoy the thrill of rappelling. How tall are the rappels on this tour?
You’ll descend two dramatic drops of over 100 feet each, including one beside Morning Glory Arch. They look impressive from above, but our guides will help you feel confident every step of the way.Is the Morning Glory tour family friendly?
Yes—kids as young as 10 can join, and many families say it’s the highlight of their Moab trip. Our guides are great with kids and know how to balance safety with fun. What should I bring and wear?
Wear closed-toe shoes with good traction (shoes may get wet). Sandals, if you are comfortable hiking in them, can be worn but only if they have a strap across the heel (no flip-flops). Wear comfortable clothes for hiking, and bring sunscreen and water. We provide a small backpack, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. All technical gear, including harness, helmet, ropes, is provided. The hike out from Morning Glory Arch can have some poison ivy near water areas. This can be avoided if you’re watching for it, but for those who are sensitive, they may prefer to wear pants.
How strenuous is the hike?
Expect 1 mile of hiking from the van to the first descent among the slickrock domes and fins of Sand Flats. Expect about a 2.5-mile hike through Grandstaff Canyon after the rappels. It’s mostly moderate terrain with some stream crossings, and guides keep a pace that works for the whole group.
Will I get wet on this tour?
Morning Glory is primarily a dry canyon, however, the spring and stream runs year round. Depending on the season or if it has recently rained, you may encounter some shallow water in the narrow slot canyon portion of the Medieval Chamber and shallow stream crossings in Grandstaff Canyon, but you won’t need to swim.
How does this tour compare to Bow & Arrow Canyon?
Morning Glory has 2 rappels, provides the opportunity to rappel next to a massive natural arch, and has a 2.5 mile hike out next to a stream which is refreshing during the hot months. Bow & Arrow Canyon includes 4 rappels, petroglyphs, and a view of a hidden arch. It is typically dry and has a little more elevation gain in the beginning, however, a mile shorter.
How long is the Dinner & Light Show?
The experience lasts about 3 hours, combining a cowboy-style dutch-oven dinner with a narrated evening cruise on the Colorado River. What kind of dinner is included?
You’ll enjoy a hearty dutch-oven style meal with a variety of meats and side dishes, including potatoes, salads and a dessert option. Soft drinks are included while alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. Vegetarian options are available. Please let us know any preferences at booking. Will I get wet on this trip?
This is a calm-water cruise on the Colorado River. Guests stay dry and comfortable throughout the evening. Are there any stairs on the boat?
There are two steps down into the boat, in addition to a staircase with a railing leading to the dock where you will board the boat. The maximum number of stairs is 30, but there may be less than that depending on the water level of the river.Where does the tour depart from?
You’ll meet directly at the launch site on the Colorado River. Parking and restrooms are available before departure, and full directions will be provided in your confirmation email. Is this trip suitable for kids?
Yes. Families often choose this evening experience because the light show and narration keep kids engaged, while the calm waters make it comfortable for all ages. However, teens may appreciate the Spin & Splash Jetboat tour or a rafting trip on the Colorado River over the Dinner & Light Show. What will I see during the light show?
As the boat cruises beneath towering canyon walls, powerful lights illuminate the cliffs while a recorded narration tells the story of the area’s history, geology, and folklore. When conditions are right, you’ll also enjoy incredible stargazing. What should I bring on this trip?
Casual clothing and a jacket with warm layers for cooler evenings. Don’t forget your camera to capture the glow of the canyon and the night sky.How is this different from other jet boat tours?
The Dinner & Light Show is unique to Moab—it combines a meal, storytelling, and illuminated canyon walls for an unforgettable evening. It’s calmer and more theatrical than the daytime Fun Run or the thrill-focused Spin & Splash. What will I see on this Canyonlands flight?
Vast river-carved canyons, the Needles area, dramatic cliff systems, and remote formations you can’t easily reach by road—true “big country” perspectives. Why choose Canyonlands over the Arches flight?

The 4-Day Classic is ideal for travelers who want to fully immerse themselves in Canyonlands National Park while experiencing some of North America’s most powerful rapids. Families with teens, adventurous couples, and active groups love the combination of rafting, hiking, and camping under the stars. With a minimum age of 12 (May-June) and a minimum age of 10 (July-September), this trip is best for families with tween and teens, adults traveling together, or solo travelers. What are the physical requirements for a Cataract Canyon trip?
Guests should be in reasonable health and able to participate in an active wilderness trip. You’ll need to fit a Type V whitewater life jacket (minimum 50 lbs; chest size up to 52"), hold on during Class III–V rapids, and be able to swim to the raft or shore if you fall in. At camp, you’ll carry your own dry bag across sandy or uneven ground. Short side hikes are part of the trip and require mobility over rocky terrain. How does the 4-Day Classic compare to the 2-Day Express?
Both trips cover the same 100-mile stretch of the Colorado River through Cataract Canyon. The 2-Day Cataract Canyon Express is designed for speed, using motorized boats to move quickly to the rapids. The 4-Day Cataract Canyon Classic takes a slower, more traditional approach, using oar and paddle rafts for much of the season and adding time for side hikes, extra stops, and camp life. If you want to focus on the biggest rapids in the shortest timeframe, choose the 2-Day Express; if you want a deeper, more relaxed experience, the 4-Day Classic is the way to go.What kind of rapids will I encounter in Cataract Canyon?
Cataract Canyon is famous for some of the largest whitewater in North America. Depending on the season, you may run up to 30 rapids ranging from Class III to Class V, with legendary drops like The Big Drops, Little Niagra, Satan’s Gut, Capsize, and The Claw. The power of these rapids is amplified in spring during peak runoff. While intense, these sections are balanced by calm stretches that allow time for swimming, relaxing, and taking in the scenery. What type of rafts are used on the Cataract Canyon 4-Day Classic trip?
The raft type depends on the season and water flows. In the high-water months of spring, the trip often uses patented J-rigs, large motorized rafts specifically engineered to provide stability and safety in Cataract’s biggest waves. Later in the season, when water levels are more moderate, the trip is run with a combination of oar-powered rafts rowed by guides and paddle rafts where guests can join in the action. This mix offers both a relaxed pace through calm stretches and exciting teamwork in the rapids. How long is the 4-Day Classic and what’s included?
The trip lasts four days, with 3 nights of camping on the river, and covers roughly 100 miles of river through Canyonlands National Park. It includes all rafting and safety equipment, camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, cots), and all meals from lunch on the first day through lunch on the final day. At the end of the 4-Day Classic, the trip concludes near Lake Powell where you’ll board a small aircraft (typically a 5–9 passenger plane) for the return to Moab. The flight lasts about 40 minutes and is included in your trip package. In addition to saving several hours of driving through remote desert roads, the flight provides unforgettable aerial views of Canyonlands National Park, the Colorado River, and Lake Powell. It’s both a practical transfer and a scenic highlight of the trip.Do I need previous rafting or camping experience?
No prior rafting or camping experience is required. Our professional guides provide thorough safety orientations, guide hikes, and prepare delicious meals riverside. Guests should be in reasonable health, comfortable around water, and ready for Class III–V rapids. Many first-time rafters and campers find the 4-Day Classic an excellent way to experience both adventure and the outdoors with expert support. What is camping like on the Cataract Canyon Classic?
Each night is spent along the river’s edge, often on sandy beaches with red rock walls and star-filled skies as your backdrop. All camping gear is provided, and guides take care of meals, and camp logistics. Meals include hot breakfasts, hearty lunches, and multi-course dinners, often prepared with fresh ingredients right at camp. The experience combines the simplicity of the outdoors with the comfort of a well-organized trip. Can I bring a CPAP machine on the river?

Meals are hot, hearty, and buffet-style, with fresh breakfasts, picnic-style lunches, and multi-course dinners prepared by your guides. Vegetarian options and gluten-free breads or tortillas can usually be provided if requested ahead of time. For strict diets or severe allergies, please bring supplemental foods that don’t require guide preparation. How are food allergies handled on Cataract trips?

Days start with hot drinks and breakfast, followed by breaking camp and rafting through calm stretches and rapids. Expect 60–90 minute river legs, with stops for swimming, hikes, snacks, and a riverside lunch. Evenings include appetizers, dinner, stories, and stargazing before bed. What bathroom facilities are available?

Tampons are usually easiest since you’ll be in and out of water. Bring your preferred products, plus zip-bags for discreet disposal. Guides will make stops as needed, and camp toilets are available morning and evening. What if there’s a medical situation on the river?
Guides are trained in wilderness medicine and carry first-aid kits and satellite communications. Serious medical issues may require helicopter or boat evacuation, but response times vary depending on conditions. Guests should be in reasonable health to join the trip. How do I bathe or wash up on the river?
Most guests rinse off in the river with biodegradable soap, a washcloth, and a quick-dry towel. Brushing teeth should be done with drinking water provided by guides. Clothing can be rinsed and dried at camp. Lotion, conditioner, and lip balm help with the dry desert air.Do I need a wetsuit for Cataract Canyon?
In spring, water can be cold, and rain suit or splash jackets are essential. By summer, quick-dry clothing, a rain shell, and secure footwear are all you’ll need.
Should I bring cameras or electronics on the trip?
We strongly suggest leaving laptops, tablets, and other large electronics at home. Heat, sand, and water can easily damage them, and there’s no way to charge or protect them in the canyon. A cell phone or small camera is fine for photos, but keep it simple—there’s no cell service, and part of the experience is disconnecting from the outside world. If you bring a device, use a true waterproof case with a strap, and consider a small power bank. Drones are not permitted in Canyonlands National Park. What do I do with extra luggage during my trip?
We can store extra bags securely in Moab. Only bring what fits in the waterproof dry bags provided. How do overnight bags and day bags work?
Each guest receives two waterproof dry bags. A large overnight bag holds your camp gear and clothing and is only accessed at camp. A smaller day bag rides with you on the raft and should carry sunscreen, water bottle, rain jacket, snacks, medications, and a waterproof camera. When does the Cataract Canyon 4-Day Classic run, and what season is best?
The trip generally operates from May through September. Spring and early summer often bring higher, more powerful rapids, while late summer and early fall offer calmer flows and warmer water, making swimming and floating more enjoyable. Both seasons provide incredible experiences—the best choice depends on whether you want the biggest water or a more laid-back pace. Can I swim during the Cataract Canyon trip?
Yes, but swimming is always at the guide’s discretion. The calm water on the first couple of days is perfect for swimming and floating. The calm stretches of river between rapids are also perfect for floating in your life jacket, especially in the warmer months of summer. During high water, swimming is more limited due to the stronger current and cooler water. How far in advance should I book the Cataract Canyon 4-Day Classic?
Because of limited departures and high demand, especially in May and June, the Classic often sells out months in advance. Booking early ensures your spot and gives you more flexibility to plan the rest of your Moab adventure around this once-in-a-lifetime trip.Who is the Cataract Canyon 2-Day Express rafting trip best suited for?
This rafting adventure is designed for active travelers who want to experience the biggest whitewater in Canyonlands National Park in just two days. Guests should be in good health and able to handle Class III–V rapids, climb on and off rafts, and carry their own dry bags at camp. You’ll need to fit a Type V life jacket (minimum 50 lbs; chest up to 52") and be prepared to self-rescue if you fall in the river. Because the trip is short and fast-paced, reasonable fitness and mobility are important. How does the 2-Day Express differ from the 4-Day Classic trip?
Both trips cover the same 100-mile stretch of the Colorado River through Cataract Canyon. The 2-Day Cataract Canyon Express moves more quickly with only a single overnight camp under the stars. The 4-Day Cataract Canyon Classic spreads the experience out with additional hikes, slower pacing, and more time to soak in the canyon scenery. Choose the Express if you’re short on time, and the Classic if you prefer a more relaxed adventure. What kind of rapids will I experience in Cataract Canyon?
Cataract Canyon is known for some of the largest whitewater in North America, especially during spring snowmelt. Rapids range from Class III to Class V, with names like The Big Drops, Little Niagra, Satan’s Gut, Capsize, The Claw, Ben Hurt, and the re-emerging Gypsum Canyon Rapid. You’ll be provided with helmets, life jackets, and detailed safety orientations. What type of rafts are used on the Cataract Canyon 2-Day Express trip?
The Express trip is designed to cover 100 miles of river in just two days, so we use specialized boats built for speed and power. Most trips feature a high-speed snout rig, a large raft with an outboard motor that quickly covers the calm stretches and positions you for the biggest rapids. On July departures, when river flows are lower, the first section of the canyon are run by jet boat, followed by paddle rafts and oar-powered rafts through the major whitewater. This combination ensures you spend less time floating and more time taking on Cataract’s legendary rapids.
How long is the Cataract Canyon 2-Day trip?
The Express trip lasts two full days and covers approximately 100 river miles. First-time rafters are welcome, but adventurous spirit and readiness for strong rapids are important. What should I pack for the 2-Day Express?
Bring quick-dry clothing, secure footwear that can get wet (no flip-flops), a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses with strap, and personal toiletries. A full packing list is provided upon booking. All camping and rafting gear is included, so you only need to bring personal essentials and clothing appropriate for the season. When does the Cataract Canyon 2-Day Express run?
This trip typically operates from May through July, when Colorado River flows are high and rapids are at their peak. Availability is limited, and trips often sell out early in the season. If you’re looking for the biggest water of the year, spring and early summer are the best times to go.Can I swim on the Cataract Canyon Express trip?
Swimming is more limited on the express trip because of the pace of the trip. However, plenty of calm stretches will allow for a dip. Guides will advise when it’s appropriate. Guests should be confident around water and prepared for possible swims in turbulent conditions. Can I bring a CPAP machine on the Express trip?
Yes, but you must be physically capable of completing the trip if your CPAP or batteries fail, since evacuations are only possible for true medical emergencies. Bring enough charged batteries for the night on the river, and let us know in advance if you plan to bring one so we can plan space for it.What kind of food is served, and can you handle dietary needs?
Meals include a picnic-style lunch both days, a hot riverside dinner, and breakfast at camp. Vegetarian and gluten-free options can often be provided if requested in advance. Because the trip is short, guests with strict dietary needs should bring supplemental items that don’t require guide preparation. How are food allergies handled on Cataract trips?
We can often set aside portions before adding nuts, dairy, or other common ingredients, but cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. If you have severe allergies, bring at least two epinephrine auto-injectors and extra snacks or desserts you know are safe. Please tell us about your allergies when you book. What drinks are provided, and can I bring my own?
Cold water and flavored drink mix are available throughout the trip. Bring a refillable water bottle for frequent refills. You may also bring a small supply of canned beverages such as soda or beer (no glass). Can I bring my own snacks?

You’ll spend one night camping at a stunning riverside location. Tents, cots, and sleeping bags are provided. Guides cook dinner and breakfast, while you set up your personal tent and gear. Evenings are usually relaxed, with time for stargazing before turning in.What bathroom facilities are available during the trip?
In camp, we set up a portable toilet system in a private location. During the day, guides make stops so guests can discreetly relieve liquid waste in the river, as regulations require. For #2 emergencies during the day, guides provide supplies and instructions for a clean, private process.
What should I do about feminine hygiene on the trip?
Tampons tend to work best since you’ll be in and out of the water, but bring what you prefer along with small zip-bags for discreet disposal. Camp toilets are always available, and guides make stops as needed during the day. What if there’s a medical situation on the Express trip?
Our guides are trained in wilderness medicine and carry first-aid kits and satellite communication. Serious emergencies may require evacuation by helicopter or boat, but response times can vary in this remote setting. Guests should be in reasonable health to join the trip. How do I bathe or wash up on the river?
Most guests rinse at the river’s edge using biodegradable soap and a camp towel. Brushing teeth should be done with drinking water provided by guides. Since this is only one night out, most guests keep it simple and freshen up at camp before bed.Do I need a wetsuit for the 2-Day Express?
In May and June, when flows are highest and water is colder, rainsuits or splash jackets are recommended. In July, quick-dry clothing and a light rain shell are usually all you need.
Should I bring cameras or electronics on the trip?
We recommend keeping electronics to a minimum. The desert heat, sand, and water can easily damage laptops or larger devices, so please leave them at home. A cell phone is fine for taking photos, but not every family member needs to bring one—there is no cell service in the canyon, and part of the magic of this trip is truly disconnecting. If you do bring a phone or small camera, pack it in a waterproof case with a strap, and consider a power bank since charging is not available. Drones are not permitted in Canyonlands National Park. What do I do with extra luggage while I’m on the Express trip?
We can store extra bags securely in Moab until you return. Bring only what fits in the waterproof dry bags provided. How do the overnight and day bags work on the Express trip?

You’ll need to fit a Type V whitewater life jacket (50 lbs minimum; chest size up to 52"), hold on during rapids, and be able to swim to the raft or shore if you fall in. At camp, you’ll carry your own dry bag across sandy beaches and uneven ground. Hikes are optional but usually short and easy enough for families. How does Desolation Canyon compare to Cataract Canyon or Westwater?
Desolation Canyon is more remote and relaxed than Cataract or Westwater. Rapids here are mostly Class I–III, making them friendlier for families with younger kids. Unlike the more intense Class IV–V rapids of Cataract, Desolation focuses on a slower pace, wilderness camping, and exploration. What is the flight from Moab to Desolation Canyon like?
This trip begins with a scenic flight from Moab into a remote airstrip above the canyon. The small plane flight (typically 5–9 passengers) offers incredible views of the Green River and surrounding desert wilderness. The flight is included in your trip package and is often a highlight of the adventure. After landing, you’ll hike down off of the plateau to meet your rafts and begin your river journey. The hike is a couple of miles and does include some steep and rocky terrain. Guests are welcome to ride in a van down to the river’s edge if they would prefer not to hike. What type of rafts are used on the Desolation Canyon trip?
Trips typically use a mix of oar-powered rafts rowed by guides and 2-person inflatable kayaks (“duckies”) for those who want more independence. This variety allows everyone—from young kids to teens and adventurous adults—to experience the canyon at their own pace. What kind of rapids will I encounter in Desolation Canyon?
You’ll run more than 60 named rapids, most of which are fun, splashy Class I–III. These rapids provide plenty of excitement without being overwhelming, making them ideal for families and first-timers. Rafting these moderate rapids in your own 2-person inflatable kayak can definitely increase the excitement level for those in search of more thrills. What is camping like in Desolation Canyon?
Each night, you’ll camp at the river’s edge, often on wide sandy beaches shaded by cottonwood trees or beneath towering canyon walls. Guides set up a comfortable camp with tents, cots, and sleeping bags, and they prepare hearty meals each day. Evenings often include stargazing, games for kids, and quiet time by the river. Camping in Desolation feels remote, peaceful, and unforgettable. Can I bring a CPAP machine on a Desolation Canyon trip?
Yes, but you must be able to finish the trip without it if your CPAP or batteries fail, since evacuations are reserved for true emergencies. Bring enough charged batteries for all nights of the trip, and let us know in advance so we can plan space for your device.Do I need rafting or camping experience for this trip?

You just need to bring a sense of adventure and personal essentials—everything else is taken care of.What kind of food is served on the river, and can you handle dietary needs?
Meals are hearty and served buffet-style, with hot breakfasts, fresh lunches, and filling dinners prepared by your guides. Guests with strict diets or severe allergies should bring supplemental snacks or items that don’t require special preparation. How are food allergies handled on Desolation Canyon trips?
Please tell us about your allergies and their severity before your trip. If you have a severe allergy, you must bring at least two epinephrine auto-injectors and some extra safe snacks or desserts. What drinks are provided, and can I bring my own?
We provide cold water and flavored drink mix throughout the trip. Bring a refillable water bottle for easy refills on and off the raft. You may bring a small amount of canned soda or beer; glass containers are not allowed. Can I bring my own snacks?
Yes. We provide snacks each day, but many guests like to bring their favorites—especially for kids. Small, sealed packages are easiest, and we can store them in dry or cold boxes. What’s a typical day like in Desolation Canyon?
Each day starts with coffee or cocoa, followed by breakfast. After breaking camp, you’ll raft for an hour or two at a time, stopping for short hikes, bathroom breaks, and a picnic-style lunch. You’ll raft a mix of calm water and Class I–III rapids, with time to swim when conditions allow. In the afternoon, guides set up camp and prepare dinner while you relax, play games with the kids, or explore the beach. Evenings end with dessert and stargazing before a good night’s sleep. What bathroom facilities are available on the trip?
In camp, we use a portable toilet system set up in a private location. During the day, guides make “pit stops” for liquid waste in the river current, following river regulations. For #2 emergencies during the day, we’ll provide supplies and instructions for a clean and discreet process.
What should I do about feminine hygiene on the river?
Tampons are usually easiest since you’ll be in and out of the water. Bring your preferred products and small zip-bags for discreet disposal. Guides make stops as needed, and camp toilets are always available morning and evening. What if there’s a medical situation on the river?
Our guides are trained in wilderness medicine and carry first-aid kits and satellite communication devices. For serious illness or injury, evacuation is coordinated by helicopter or other means if available, but because we are in remote backcountry, response times can vary. How do I bathe or wash up on a Desolation Canyon trip?
Most guests rinse off in the river using biodegradable soap, a washcloth, and a quick-dry towel. Brushing teeth should be done with drinking water. Clothes can be rinsed and dried at camp, and lotion, lip balm, and conditioner are helpful in the dry desert air.Do I need a wetsuit in Desolation Canyon?
Not unless you’re rafting in the winter. In June, the water can be chilly, but for those who are prone to get cold easily, generally just a rain jacket is sufficient. By July and August, the water and air are warm enough that you’ll be spending a lot of time cooling off by floating down the river in your life jacket.Should I bring cameras or electronics on the trip?
This is a perfect trip to unplug, so avoid bringing laptops, tablets, or other large electronics—they’ll likely be damaged by heat, sand, or water. A single phone or small camera for photos is plenty; not everyone in the family needs to bring one since there’s no cell service. Kids especially benefit from disconnecting and rediscovering simple fun on the river. If you bring a device, store it in a waterproof case with a strap. Small power banks work, but drones are not allowed in this wilderness area. What do I do with extra luggage during my Desolation Canyon trip?
We can store extra bags securely at our Springhill Suites meeting location in Moab while you’re on the river. Only bring what fits in the waterproof dry bags we provide. How do the overnight and day bags work?
Each guest gets two dry bags. The large overnight bag holds your camp gear and clothing and stays strapped to the raft until evening. The smaller day bag rides with you on the raft and should hold sunscreen, water bottle, rain jacket, snacks, medications, and a camera in a waterproof case. When does the Desolation Canyon trip run, and what season is best?
Trips generally operate from June through August. Early summer often means higher flows and splashier rapids, while later in the season the water is calmer and warmer—perfect for swimming. Because this trip is family-focused, many guests choose July and August for school breaks and comfortable camping weather. What should I pack for the Desolation Canyon trip?
You’ll receive a detailed packing list after booking, but in general you’ll want quick-dry clothing, water shoes or sandals with straps, a hat, sunglasses with a strap, and plenty of sun protection. Towels, personal toiletries, and a light jacket for cool evenings are also recommended. All rafting and camping gear is provided. How far in advance should I book Desolation Canyon?

Booking early is the best way to ensure your preferred dates and give your family plenty of time to prepare for this wilderness experience.

This trip is designed for families, couples, and small groups who want a taste of Moab’s best adventures without having to plan every detail. With rafting, a Hummer Safari, and a guided Arches National Park tour, it’s ideal for first-time visitors and families with kids ages 5 and up.What activities are included in the Southwest Sampler?
The Sampler combines two days of rafting on the Colorado River with one night of riverside camping, plus a Hummer Safari and a guided Arches National Park tour. Lodging in Moab is included before the river portion, along with most meals. It’s our most popular Moab vacation package because it bundles lodging and activities into one seamless experience. What is the rafting portion of the trip like?
You’ll raft about 20 miles of the Colorado River over two days, with fun Class I–II rapids (sometimes Class III in spring). One night is spent camping on a riverside beach, with tents, cots, and sleeping bags provided. Guides handle all logistics and cook delicious meals, giving you time to relax, swim, or explore camp. What type of rafts are used on the Sampler?
Trips typically use paddle boats that are assisted by a guide at the back rowing with oars. Guests can paddle if they’d like, and inflatable kayaks (“duckies”) are sometimes available for those who want more hands-on adventure. All guests wear Coast Guard–approved life jackets. What kind of hotels are included in this Moab vacation package?
The package includes two nights at the Marriott Springhill Suites in Moab. The hotel provides a good breakfast, air conditioning, private bathrooms, a spectacular pool area, and amenities to recharge between adventures. What’s included with camping and lodging?
On the river, all camping gear is provided, including tents, cots, and sleeping bags. Meals are included from lunch on day one through lunch on day two. In Moab, hotel accommodations are included in the package, so you don’t have to book separately. However, some guests will book an additional night after returning from the river to stay one more night in Moab. What meals are included on the Southwest Sampler?
Breakfast and lunch is included the day after you check in. You’ll have a chance to explore local restaurants in Moab that evening. The following morning, you’ll have breakfast at the hotel before we pick you up to head to the river. Once on the river, you’ll have a picnic lunch on the beach, a freshly prepared dinner at camp, breakfast the following morning, and a riverside BBQ lunch before we conclude the rafting portion of your trip. Dietary needs can often be accommodated if requested in advance, but guests with strict diets may want to bring their own snacks. What if I’ve never camped before?
That’s fine—many guests are first-time campers. We provide all the camping gear you’ll need and guides handle setup of shared areas like the kitchen and bathrooms. They’ll also walk you through setting up your personal tent and gear. The Southwest Sampler is a comfortable introduction to camping, with only one night spent outdoors. What should I pack for the Southwest Sampler?
You’ll receive a packing list after booking, but plan on bringing quick-dry clothing, a swimsuit, secure footwear for rafting, and sun protection (hat, sunglasses with strap, sunscreen). Casual clothes are best for the Hummer Safari and Arches tour. Extra luggage can be stored while you’re on the river—pack your personal gear in a soft-sided duffle bag. What are the bathroom facilities on the river?
In camp, we set up a portable toilet system in a private location. During the day, guides make “pit stops” for liquid waste in the river current, following regulations. For #2 emergencies during the day, guides provide supplies and instructions for a clean, private process.
Is this trip good for kids?
Yes. With gentle rapids, sandy beaches for play, and a variety of activities, the Southwest Sampler is one of the best Moab vacation packages for families with children as young as 5. Parents often tell us their kids loved the balance of rafting, camping, and exploring Arches.
Do I need prior rafting or camping experience?
No. This trip is designed for beginners and families. Guides provide thorough safety orientations and handle camp setup, meals, and river navigation. You just need to be reasonably healthy and able to move around camp and climb on and off rafts. Why choose a Moab Vacation Package instead of booking separately?
Booking the Southwest Sampler as a package saves time, simplifies logistics, and ensures you don’t miss out on Moab’s most popular activities. Lodging, rafting, the Hummer Safari, and Arches tour are all coordinated for you, including pickups at the hotel for each of your activities, so you can focus on enjoying the trip instead of juggling multiple reservations and logistics. Many guests find the value is better than piecing everything together on their own.How does the Southwest Sampler compare to longer rafting expeditions?
The Sampler is shorter and more varied, making it perfect if you don’t have time for a 5 day wilderness trip. It mixes rafting with a Hummer Safari, Arches tour, and comfortable hotel stays. It’s the best way to sample Moab’s highlights in just a few days. When does the Southwest Sampler run, and what season is best?
Trips operate from June through August. Spring offers cooler weather and splashier water, summer brings warm water for swimming and comfortable camping, and fall offers crisp air and fewer crowds. How far in advance should I book the Sampler?
Because it includes lodging and multiple guided activities, the Southwest Sampler has limited capacity and often sells out months in advance. Booking early ensures you get the dates you want.
Who is the Westwater Canyon rafting trip best suited for?
Westwater Canyon is designed for adventurous guests who are comfortable in moving water and ready for bigger rapids. The minimum age is 12, and participants should have a moderate fitness level to paddle and re-enter the raft if needed. This trip is more intense than our Colorado River family floats, making it ideal for thrill-seekers, teens, and adults looking for Class III–IV whitewater. What kind of rapids will I encounter on the Westwater trip?
You’ll raft through a series of legendary Class III–IV rapids including Skull, Funnel Falls, Sock-It-To-Me, and Surprise. These rapids feature fast-moving drops, large waves, and technical maneuvers. The rapids in Westwater Canyon occur in a short, narrow section of the canyon that you’ll encounter after lunch. Calmer stretches at the beginning and end of the canyon balance the day, but the core afternoon section of this trip is exciting, continuous whitewater action. How long is the Westwater Canyon rafting adventure?
This is a full-day adventure lasting about 10 hours including shuttles to and from the river. The drive to the BLM Westwater put in from Moab is approximately 90 minutes. The return from the takeout to Moab is about 60 minutes. With some time for orientation at the launch ramp and time for getting the boats out of the water at the end, the actual time on the river will be closer to 6-8 hours and will fluctuate based on water levels and speed of the water. Trips depart Moab Adventure Center at 7:30 AM and return in the late afternoon to early evening. On the water, you’ll cover 17 miles of the Colorado River, with time for both thrilling rapids and a riverside picnic lunch. What’s included with the Westwater rafting trip?
The trip includes professional guides, all rafting equipment (rafts, paddles, helmets, and Coast Guard–approved life jackets), a picnic-style riverside lunch, and round-trip transportation from Moab Adventure Center to the Westwater launch site. Just bring your personal items such as sun protection, water shoes, and quick-dry clothing.Do I need previous rafting experience to join Westwater Canyon?
No prior rafting experience is required, but guests should be prepared for Class III–IV rapids, which are more demanding than the family sections of the Colorado River. Guides provide a full safety orientation, and helmets are required. Guests should feel comfortable in water and able to follow paddling instructions in turbulent conditions. Will I have to paddle the whole time?
It depends on water levels and the type of raft you’re in. During higher flows, Westwater trips typically use oar-powered rafts, where your guide rows from the center to handle the stronger current. In more moderate water levels, paddle rafts are used, with the guide positioned at the back to steer and assist while guests paddle as a team through the calm water sections and rapids. Either way, your guide will let you know what to expect, and you can choose how active you’d like to be when booking, depending on availability. Can I swim during the Westwater Canyon trip?
Because this trip features strong currents and technical rapids, swimming is limited and always at your guide’s discretion. Calmer stretches of the river in the morning and later afternoon may allow a dip, particularly after the whitewater section of the canyon, but guests should be prepared for cold water and prioritize safety at all times. When does the Westwater Canyon rafting trip run?
This trip typically operates from May through September. Spring and early summer often bring higher, faster water, which can make the rapids even more intense. Later in the summer, the water is usually lower but still delivers powerful Class III–IV rapids. Limited permits and departures mean spots fill quickly in all seasons. If early season water levels are deemed unsuitable for rafting, we may cancel trips and provide alternative options. What should I wear and bring for the Westwater Canyon trip?
Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry clothing, secure footwear that can get wet (water shoes or sandals with straps—no flip-flops), and sun protection (hat, sunglasses with strap, sunscreen). Bring a small daypack with personal items for the bus ride. You may leave these items on the bus during your rafting trip. For earlier spring trips or cooler forecasts, you may want to leave a jacket or some dry clothes on the bus to be comfortable on your drive home. How far in advance should I book Westwater Canyon rafting?
