Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Morning Half-Day rafting trip family-friendly for kids and grandparents?
Yes. The Morning Half-Day trip is one of our most family-friendly rafting options. Children as young as five (minimum 50 lbs) can participate, and the mix of calm water with Class I–II rapids (with occasional Class III in spring) keeps kids engaged without being overwhelming. Families love that it’s short enough for younger attention spans while still delivering splashes, scenery, and fun that even grandparents enjoy. What kind of rapids can I expect on the Morning Half-Day trip?
This section of the Colorado River offers mostly Class I–II rapids with calm stretches in between, plus the chance for Class III during spring high water. It’s not as intense as Westwater or Cataract Canyon, but it’s the perfect introduction to rafting—exciting enough for kids and first-timers, yet relaxed enough for families and multigenerational groups. What time does the Morning Half-Day rafting adventure start and end?
The trip covers about 7 miles of river and lasts roughly 4 hours and 25 minutes, including transfers. Departures are at 8:00 AM, and most groups return to Moab by early afternoon. The morning timing leaves plenty of room to add another adventure to your day, such as an Arches National Park tour or a Hummer Safari, while still enjoying a cooler, more relaxed start. What is included with the Morning Half-Day rafting package?
This tour includes professional guides, all required rafting gear (rafts, paddles, and Coast Guard–approved life jackets), shuttle transportation, and light snacks with water. Unlike the Full-Day and Mid-Day trips, no lunch is served, which makes the trip shorter and easier to combine with afternoon activities.Do I have to paddle during the Morning Half-Day trip, or can I just ride along?
No. Rafts are oar-assisted, so your guide does the primary rowing. Guests are welcome to paddle along, and the guide may ask for extra effort through rapids, but you won’t be paddling the entire trip. Inflatable kayaks are sometimes available for those who want more hands-on adventure. Is swimming an option on the Morning Half-Day rafting tour?
Yes. On calm stretches, guides may allow guests to jump in with their personal flotation devices (PFDs) and float beside the raft. Swimming is optional, and guides will let you know when conditions are suitable. Morning water can feel brisk, especially in spring, so many guests prefer to wait for summer if swimming is a priority. What should I wear and bring for the Morning Half-Day rafting adventure?
Wear a swimsuit or quick-dry clothing, secure footwear that can get wet (water shoes or sandals with straps—no flip-flops), and sun protection (hat, sunglasses with strap, sunscreen). A refillable water bottle is recommended, and you’ll receive a complimentary souvenir bottle to use during the trip.Does the Morning Half-Day rafting trip run in bad weather?
Trips run in most conditions, including light rain. Spring usually means bigger, splashier water, while late summer is typically calmer and warmer. If conditions make it unwise to operate, trips may be rescheduled or refunded. Will there be opportunities to take photos on the Morning Half-Day trip?
Yes. There are plenty of opportunities during calm stretches and snack breaks to capture the scenery, wildlife, and your group. A waterproof camera or phone case with a strap is highly recommended to avoid damage or loss. Many guides are also happy to take group photos on shore or during calm sections. When does the Morning Half-Day rafting trip run, and what’s the best time of year to go?
The Morning Half-Day trip typically operates from April through October. In spring (May–June), higher water from snowmelt can create splashier rapids and faster current, while mornings remain cool and refreshing. Later in the summer, the river is usually calmer, with warmer water that’s perfect for swimming or floating beside the raft. Many guests choose spring for more excitement and canyon breezes, while others prefer the easygoing pace and comfort of late-summer mornings. When should I book the Morning Half-Day rafting adventure to get a spot?
Morning rafting is one of our most popular half-day adventures. Departures often sell out weeks in advance. Booking early ensures you get your preferred date and makes it easier to plan other Moab activities for the same day.
