Dead Horse Point Hiking

Relatively easy hiking and consistently amazing views makes Dead Horse Point State Park a perfect place to spend a day exploring. And you won’t have to explore on your own, Dead Horse Point is dog friendly, as long as you keep your pup on a leash at all time.

Canyonlands National Park Dead Horse

Our favorite hikes in Dead Horse Point State Park

Roughly seven miles of hiking trails sprawl across the Dead Horse Point Plateau, connecting eight unbelievable overlooks. Hiking in Dead Horse Point is fairly easy with minimal elevation gain or loss.

Dead Horse Point Overlook Trail (200 feet) easy

This is the reason people flock to Dead Horse Point. A short paved walkway leads to the iconic photo spot overlooking a bend in the Colorado River.

The Colorado River Overlook (1 mile) easy

The path trails along the east rim to a gorgeous view of the Colorado River.

West Rim Trail (2.5 miles) moderate

The longest, most primitive hiking trail in the park offers stunning canyon views from both sides of the rim. The Meander, Shafer, and Rim overlook are spur trails well worth exploring, but add an additional mile to the hike.
