Overlook of the Colorado River from Dead Horse Point.

Dead Horse Point Overlook Trail (200 feet) easy

This iconic overlook is the centerpiece of Dead Horse Point State Park. A short, paved ADA-accessible path leads from the parking area to sweeping views of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below. A large shelter offers shade and weather protection. Paved paths extend in both directions to connect with the East and West Rim trails, though these extensions include steeper grades and slickrock, and are not ADA accessible.

Desert View Overlook from Dead Horse Point State Park.

Desert View Overlook (.5 mile) easy

This scenic trail heads north from the visitor center along the east rim, offering views of the canyon floor, the Colorado River, and shimmering Potash Ponds. The overlook reveals striking rock layers carved by millions of years of erosion. Look for life in the potholes—fairy shrimp, beetles, and tadpoles—and watch for wildlife among the junipers, including rabbits, deer, lizards, and bighorn sheep.

West Rim Trail Overlook with view of deep canyons.

West Rim Trail (2.5 miles) moderate

The West Rim Trail is the longest hike in Dead Horse Point State Park, offering a quieter, more rugged experience than the East Rim. Starting near the visitor center, it winds past the campground and hugs the park’s dramatic western cliffs. Follow cairns across exposed sandstone and slickrock. Spur trails like Meander, Shafer, and Rim Overlook add a mile and reveal stunning canyon and river views.
